If there’s one thing we know about the NCAA it’s that it works on its own time. It can take a couple of weeks to make a decision about one player’s eligibility, then multiple months for the next.

When it comes to full-on investigations of a program, the NCAA more often than not moves at a dying snail’s pace.

LSU’s men’s basketball program reportedly receiving a notice of allegations is just the latest example of the NCAA’s inconsistency with time.

According to Sports Illustrated’s Pat Forde, LSU has received a notice of allegations (NOA) based on an infractions case that dates back to a 2017 federal investigation of corruption.

Back in March of 2019, audio recordings were used in an HBO documentary called ‘The Scheme’ in which head coach Will Wade talked about making a “strong ass offer” to sign a recruit in 2017.

The audio came from a call between Wade and Christian Dawkins, a former runner for an NBA agent, where they discussed the offer to sign Javonte Smart.

Dawkins’ on-camera interview about Wade’s comments: “They ain’t talking about a scholarship offer, bro. One-hundred percent talking about money.”

Smart played two seasons at LSU before entering the 2021 NBA Draft.

College Basketball World Reacts To Latest LSU Allegation News

Fast-forward to the present day, and the notice of allegations has just now landed on Wade’s doorstep, four years later.

According to Forde, if Wade is charged with a major violation, he could be terminated with cause.

While there are still plenty of questions about the investigation, the allegations, and Wade’s future, college basketball fans reacted to the latest chapter in the long story.

Most college hoops fans are angry with Forde publishing the piece, while LSU fans don’t seem to be too worried at all. All in all, most of the reactions are hilarious.
