The Pick: Both Teams To Score (-110)
Wolves have been one of the Premier League’s most dangerous teams since their promotion to the top division a couple of years ago, as they’ve proven they’ve got the quality to defeat any of the Top Six sides on their day. Take last season, for example, where they pulled off the double on then-defending champions Manchester City (that’s soccer slang for winning both matches).
Due to their consistently inconsistent defense, more so than any other top six teams, Man City are susceptible to Wolves’ greatest strength: launching a counter-attack through the incomparable Adama Traore, who’s likely the fastest player in the Premier League. Traore is the key in all of this, to the extent that I WOULD WAIT UNTIL LINE-UPS ARE RELEASED (~2:15 p.m. EST, one hour before kickoff) TO CONFIRM THAT TRAORE IS STARTING BEFORE PLACING THIS BET.
Don’t get me wrong, Wolves can and likely will score even without Traore, but such is his talent that if he does start, I feel confident enough that Wolves will be able to bag at least a goal, as he and Raul Jimenez terrorize a suspect and still-gelling backline that will be without stalwart Aymeric Laporte. Yes, City signed former Bournemouth centerback Nathan Ake over the summer, but I still don’t think he’ll be enough — especially in his debut — to keep Wolves at bay.
As for City’s side of the bargain, even when they’re at their most blunt, they’re still almost always good for at least a goal. With Liverpool already looking like a juggernaut out of the gate, you have to think City will want to respond and make an early-season statement of their own.
