Ravens TE Mark Andrews Helped Save A Woman’s Life On A Southwest Flight

Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews apparently helped save the life of a woman on a Southwest flight from Baltimore to Phoenix on Thursday, February 1.

According to a thread posted to Twitter, Andrews was on a morning flight from BWI to PHX when a woman began suffering a medical emergency.

The Twitter user says that the doctor and nurses attending to the woman could not find a “strong pulse” and reported that her blood pressure was “extremely low,” prompting Andrews to intervene.

Andrews, a Type 1 diabetic, chimed in to say “Could it be her blood sugar? I have a diabetic testing kit,” which eventually led to the woman’s heart rate stabilizing.

“A woman on my Southwest flight from Baltimore to Phoenix this morning had a mid-flight medical emergency. The doctor and nurse attending to her couldn’t find a strong pulse, her blood pressure was extremely low, and required oxygen to breathe. It was genuinely scary,” Twitter user @NaturalSprings wrote.

“A man in the aisle seat popped up, ‘Could it be her blood sugar? I have a diabetic testing kit.’ It was Ravens tight end Mark Andrews. Andrews instructed the medical professionals (equal citizen heroes in this story) on using his test kit. Eventually, her heart-rate stabilized. Paramedics met the flight as soon as we landed,” he continued.

“Andrews deplaned quietly. No fanfare. As he has done his whole career, he stepped up in a huge moment when people needed him most. Watching complete strangers spring into action to help save someone’s life is truly amazing,” the thread concluded.

Unfortunately for the 28-year-old Andrews, 2023 was defined by injuries as he played in the fewest amount of games in his career (10). In those 10 games, Andrews caught 45 passes for 544 yards and six touchdowns en route to helping the Ravens secure the #1 seed in the AFC (which ultimately didn’t mean anything because they still lost to the Chiefs in the playoffs, anyway).
