Maryland football is running a free tuition giveaway during a game vs. Illinois.
The University of Maryland is begging fans to show up in support of a bad football team. It’s implemented a variety of giveaways to attract fans to attend a Halloween matchup vs. Illinois.
One particular contest will give a student free tuition for the spring semester, but only if they vow to stay for all four quarters.
The Terrapins certainly need all the help they can get. They’ve put an awful product on the field to date. The team is now without a head coach after the firing of Mike Locksley.
Maryland has a bad football team.
The Terps have lost 12 straight Big Ten games. They’ve gone just 10-21 since the start of 2024. Locksley entered the year on the hot seat after back-to-back 4-8 campaigns. He was unable to right the ship in 2026.
Maryland is 2-5 and in the cellar of the conference standings. They’ve been blown out by UCLA, Nebraska, and Ohio State. Locksley could not survive.
After a loss to Rutgers, the school agreed to pay the head coach $10 million to leave. Defensive assistant Aazaar Abdul-Rahim will take over in the interim.
Abdul-Rahim will have a chance to end the losing skid in his debut vs. Illinois. Maryland is doing its best to ensure he has a raucous home crowd at his back.
The school is giving away tickets and tuition in hopes of getting butts in the seats.
The Terrapins need support.

Maryland is looking to “Triple the Terps” in order to fill the stadium. They are running a buy one, get two deal for the football matchup against Illinois.
That is not the biggest giveaway of the weekend, though. The university is also offering students the opportunity to win a free semester of tuition.
You MUST stay until the fourth quarter to be eligible.
Crazy stuff here with the Maryland football 4th quarter student raffle this week:
You can win free tuition for the spring semester if you stay through the 4th quarter and enter the raffle. Eligible up to in-state tuition rates. https://t.co/t2WiZgTFiC

It does not matter if it is a blowout. You can only enter the raffle by attending the game in person. A winner will not be announced until all four quarters are complete.
That offer is worth at least $5,500 based on in-state tuition rates. That total does not include any added fees that come along with school enrollment.
Maryland enters as a three-point home underdog against Illinois. There is a chance it will be a very competitive game. Students will hope for the best while waiting out the tuition raffle. They’d rather not sit through another blowout.
