Kansas City’s Tyrann Mathieu had a lot to say about his multiple in-game scuffles with Tom Brady during Sunday night’s Super Bowl LV. The two went after it on a few occasions throughout the first half, but the Tampa Bay quarterback and game MVP got the last laugh with a 31-9 victory. After the game, Mathieu discussed the way the confrontation went down with a tweet that has since been deleted.

His tweet came in response to another post from NFL insider Dov Kleiman. The tweet showed Mathieu pointing a finger at Brady, which happened after the two first exchanged words a few plays prior.

“He called me something I won’t repeat but yeah I’ll let all the media throw me under the bus as if I did something or said something to him,” Mathieu wrote.

When someone in the comments asked him what Brady, he responded “I’ll let him tell you,” but has since pulled his reply down as well.

The timeline of the incident played out over the course of a few drives and resulted in Mathieu being flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct. It was a questionable penalty, as it appeared that Brady approached him to instigate the situation where the flag was thrown. Tensions began to rise with both competitors jawing at one another, and Brady told Mathieu that he was going to go after him all game.

A few plays later, on 1st-and-goal from the nine-yard-line, Brady threw a pass in Mathieu’s direction, intended for Mike Evans. However, he tossed the ball out of the back of the end zone in what appeared to be a deliberate throw out of bounds with hopes of drawing the flag. Mathieu was (incorrectly) called for pass interference to set up 1st-and-goal from the one.

Brady threw Mathieu’s direction again on the very next snap and he was burnt by Antonio Brown for a touchdown.

Brady ran up on Mathieu to remind him that he went after him and won.

The 43-year-old, seven-time Super Bowl champion said his piece and moved on. Mathieu did not take kindly to the discussion and got up in Brady’s face after he ran off.

An unsportsmanlike conduct penalty was called on Mathieu and enforced on the kickoff, when in reality, it was Brady who began the dialogue. The former LSU defensive back took issue to the call in another deleted tweet.

Mathieu went so far as to claim that Brady said something that may have crossed a line, but deleted the tweet once it began to gain traction. His comments came after he addressed the media postgame.

Both quarterbacks were mic’d up throughout the night, so we could get an understanding of what truly happened if Mathieu doubles down and pursues his truth.
