Jerry Jones Accidentally Tips Dallas Cowboys Second Round NFL Draft Pick In Press Conference

Did Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones let slip his team’s plans for Friday’s second round of the NFL Draft?

It sure sounds like it.

Jones met with the media after Thursday’s first round, when the team selected Oklahoma tackle Tyler Guyton, and revealed that the Cowboys are targeting Texas Longhorns running back Jonathan Brooks in round two.

“In my 30 years, I thought it was the best interview that I ever interviewed with a player,” Jones said of Brooks. “He’s outstanding. And he’s a great football player. We got him high, high, high. And he’s a good player.” Someone to think about in Day 2.”

Dallas is in search of a running back after 2023 starter Tony Pollard agreed to a three-year, $24 million deal with the Tennessee Titans in free agency.

Brooks, a Texas native, rushed for 1,139 yards and 10 touchdowns for the Longhorns in 2023. But he tore his ACL against the TCU Horned Frogs in November and is still in the recovery process.

Fans Can’t Believe Jerry Jones Would Openly Tip NFL Draft Pick

That’s scared off several teams. It appears, however, that Dallas is not one of them. But fans weren’t happy that Jones was so openly showing his hand.

Dallas traded pack from pick 24 to pick 29 in the first round, adding an extra third-round pick from the Detroit Lions in the process. Now it appears that the Cowboys may need to use that same pick to move up and get Brooks in round two unless he lasts until their second selection at No. 56.

If not, it’s probably not the worst thing for the organization.

Dallas is badly in need of help at several positions on both sides of the ball. And while running back is the most glaring need, it’s one that can typically be filled with picks later in the draft.
