If you’re wondering the quickest way to lose $3M, ask famed sports bettor Mattress Mack. The furniture store mogul is going to be out a lot of money when the national championship game ends.

Mattress Mack made headlines after the college football playoff semifinal, where TCU surprisingly took down Michigan. Following that upset win, he placed a $1.5M bet on the Horned Frogs to win the natty.

In all, he laid over $3M on TCU to pull another upset, even making a hype video to commemorate the wagers. Spirits were high as the championship game neared.

Those good feelings have since died. Just minutes into the game, the hopes of a big payout dwindled.

Georgia came out on absolute fire in the first half, jumping out to a 10-0 lead and it soon got much worse. The deficit would balloon to 31-7 before the halftime break, and 65-7 at the time of this writing.

Mattress Mack couldn’t look any sadder sitting back and watching his money slip away.

It’s the latest in a long line of losses for the sports bettor, though he’d been on a recent hot streak. A Kansas win in March Madness got him started, then the Astros landed a historic payday in the World Series to the tune of $75M this past November.

But this latest defeat has taken the momentum, and for a brief moment, broken Mattress Mack’s spirits.

Have no fear, he’s on to basketball season after placing $1.5M in bets on Houston to win the national title. Hopefully the Cougars can prove to be a more profitable pick for Mack this March because watching his reaction to the TCU game was a bummer.

At least he’s got the attitude of a gambler. On to the next.

“I’m getting cooked, but it’s just a setup for a comeback.”

There have never been truer words spoken.
