There’s been a major shakeup in a wacky BCS-like rankings system following a mind-blowing college football loss. A new No. 1 has taken over in the poll.

The poll is updated weekly at MCubed.net, and it’s given followers some interesting results over the last few weeks.

We gave an update last week in which the site listed Miami as the top dog. Their stay at No. 1 didn’t last long due to Mario Cristobal’s head-scratching decision to not take a knee on the final drive with the game all but decided.

The loss was not only brutal for a Miami team that had previously been undefeated, holding ACC and National Championship aspirations, but it also caused a massive slide down this particular poll.

The Hurricanes were ranked No. 41 after the Georgia Tech debacle.

No. 2 Texas also fell a few spots following a loss in the Red River Rivalry to Oklahoma, though they weren’t impacted nearly as much as Miami. No. 3 Washington State also dropped after losing to UCLA.

That means a new top group has taken over the BCS-like college football rankings.

In this week’s poll, Ohio State tops the list followed by Penn State and Oklahoma. That could create a 1/2 showdown in Week 8 between the Buckeyes and Nittany Lions.

Here’s the Top 10 in its entirety:

  1. Ohio State
  2. Penn State
  3. Oklahoma
  4. Texas
  5. Louisville
  6. Michigan
  7. Oregon
  8. UNC
  9. Washington
  10. FSU

Georgia falls just outside the Top 10 at No. 11 following a 51-13 beatdown of SEC East rival Kentucky. Group of Five schools James Madison and Liberty come in at No. 12 and No. 13, respectively.

The site calculates these standings with a variety of variables. Wins and losses come first, though point margin is rewarded. Strength of schedule is also factored in, likely the reason for Michigan and UGA’s low rankings in comparison to the AP Poll.

There are a few other interesting tidbits from the college football rankings.

Akron is considered the worst team in America despite the fact that Nevada and Sam Houston State have yet to win a game. Colorado comes in at No. 34, followed shortly after by Clemson at No 37.

Mississippi State is the worst SEC team, falling behind Vanderbilt at No. 99. The ACC, Big XII, and PAC 12 have multiple teams sitting at 100th or worse.

We’ll see if the Ohio State can hold its place atop the standings this weekend. The Buckeyes play Purdue on Saturday.
