While Sunday’s win against the Houston Texans may have provided them with a stay of execution, the New York Jets 2023 season is all but officially dead.

Currently sitting at 5-8, the Jets would have to run the table in their final four games while also needing help across the AFC, which currently has six teams with 7-6 records vying for a playoff spot.

Even though playing meaningless football in December has come to be the norm for the Jets and its fanbase, it wasn’t supposed to be that way this season due to their acquisition of Aaron Rodgers.

Rodgers and all of his holistic healing methods, however, tore his achilles just four snaps into the season.

During Sunday’s game against the Texans, some reporters shared photos of the MetLife crowd, with one in particular drawing a comparison to how the stadium looked on opening day back in September.

To be fair to the Jets, things aren’t much better on the blue side of MetLife Stadium, either, as their crosstown rival New York Giants currently have a similarly dismal 4-8 records.

With four games left in the 2023 season, the Jets still have to face off against the Miami Dolphins, Washington Commanders, Cleveland Browns, and New England Patriots.

Perhaps luckily for Jets fans, the team has just one home game remaining on its schedule: Christmas Eve against the Washington Commanders, which is the date that Rodgers previously suggested he could return to the field.

Even if the Jets are mathematically eliminated by the time their Week 18 matchup against the New England Patriots rolls around, Gang Green will still have something to play for as it could potentially be Bill Belichick’s final game as Pats head coach.

Given the way that Belichick ghosted the Jets some 25ish years ago and the way his teams have dominated them over the years, New York will certainly be looking to send the Hall of Fame coach home with a loss.
