The crew at Citi Field seems to be taking a page out of the vaguely police state-inspired playbook that Madison Square Garden uses. On Tuesday, a fan claims he was ejected from the ballpark for calling for the firing of New York Mets manager Carlos Mendoza amid the team’s disastrous 12-game losing streak.

Video circulating on social media shows a New York Mets fan being escorted out of Citi Field during a game this week, reportedly for repeatedly yelling profanities directed at manager Carlos Mendoza, who has overseen one of the worst teams in Major League Baseball since last June (which is rivaled by the likes of the Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Angels, Minnesota Twins and Colorado Rockies for the worst record in the sport over that stretch of time).

The move is reminiscent of James Dolan’s arena, as Madison Square Garden has become notorious for ejecting fans who express displeasure with ownership or management, a policy that has generated years of bad press and genuine public outrage, which is the exact opposite of what the Mets need right now.

Another Mets fan who was in attendance during the Mets 5-3 loss to the Minnesota Twins, however, says the booted-out fan got what he deserved, as the fan had received prior warnings before being removed, and the ejection came after complaints from nearby families about the language he was using.

The Mets’ ongoing 12-game losing streak is the franchise’s longest since 2002. No team with a 12-game losing streak has ever qualified for the MLB playoffs, suggesting a long summer of misery ahead for Mets fans.
