The Mets Started The MLB Season In The Most Mets Ways Possible And Mets Fans Are Apoplectic

The 2023 MLB season was supposed to be the New York Mets‘ year.

Owner Steve Cohen spent an absolutely absurd amount of money to compile what was, in theory, the best roster that money could buy.

But then the season started, and so did the injuries, and it fizzled out into one giant disappointment. Now it appears that history is repeating itself, and Mets fans are completely inconsolable.

The one positive takeaway from an otherwise heartbreaking season for Mets fans in 2023 was that Japanese rookie Kodai Senga was immediately one of the best pitchers in the league.

Senga, 30, signed a five-year, $75 million deal after dominating in Japan’s NPB for years prior. That dominance translated to Major League Baseball immediately. He posted a 12-7 record with a 2.98 ERA and 202 strikeouts. Senga was named an All-Star and finished seventh in the NL Cy Young Award voting.

The New York Mets appear to have found themselves an ace.

And now he’s injured.

Mike Puma of the New York Post reports that Senga will begin the 2024 season on the injured list.

“The Mets are prepared to begin the season without Kodai Senga, following an MRI exam that revealed the team’s ace has a moderate strain in his right shoulder,” Puma writes. “Senga, according to president of baseball operations David Stearns, was diagnosed with a moderate posterior capsule strain in the shoulder.”

Mets Fans Are Ready To Jump After News Of Kodai Senga Shoulder Injury

That report comes after Senga told the team of shoulder fatigue while throwing on Wednesday.

The posterior capsule sits between the scapula and the humeral head of the upper arm. Stearns did not specify how long the injury would keep Senga out.

Mets fans, as you can imagine, are handling things completely normally…

While we would love to tell Mets fans that it will get better, history indicates otherwise. But hey, at least the franchise doesn’t have a long history of star pitchers having their careers derailed due to injury.

Oh, wait…
