One of the unfortunate realities of being a diehard sports fan is knowing that there’s almost no scenario where you’re able to avoid being subjected to the lowest of lows while chasing the highest of highs that comes with seeing your team win a championship or some other big game or event.

That can be especially frustrating when you don’t possess the amount of self-control required to stop yourself from taking your frustrations out on an inanimate object due to a heartbreaking loss or controversial call that went against you.

I can personally attest to the momentary therapeutic feeling that comes with throwing a remote against a wall or slamming a controller to the floor in anger. Unfortunately, that’s usually followed by the sobering moment of clarity that comes with realizing you’re going to have to go to the store or wait a couple of days to get your hands on a replacement.

However, the cost that accompanied those retroactively regrettable outbursts is a drop in the bucket compared to the bill the many, many people who’ve taken their feelings out on a defenseless television have had to foot after coming to their senses.

In most cases, those acts of violence are limited to throwing a punch (or five) at the screen and/or emphatically slamming the entire TV onto the floor. However, one soccer fan went above and beyond after Mexico’s 2022 World Cup run officially came to an end on Wednesday.

Mexico was still in contention to advance to the knockout stage when it faced off against Saudi Arabia in its final Group C game in Qatar. However, it was a fairly tricky path, as the club needed a win and some help from Argentina to not only beat Poland but score enough goals to put a dent in the differential that gave the European squad the edge.

While those first two boxes were ultimately checked, Poland was still able to advance after coming out on top in that last tiebreaker—a development that did not sit well with a Mexico fan who not only used his TV as a punching bag but grabbed a knife before delivering a few final killing blows.

It might seem excessive, but you might as well go all out at that point.
