Miami Women’s Swim Team Losing Race To ‘Frat Boys’ Exemplifies Biological Advantage For Males

Jory Richardson and some of her teammates on the swim team at the University of Miami recently hopped in the pool to race against members of an all-male fraternity. They went 2-1.

The Hurricanes lost in the butterfly.

Yes, you read that correctly. A Division-I swim team lost to a group of “frat boys” in the pool.

Miami’s women’s swim and dive team is elite.

This would be a very different conversation if we were talking about a small D-III school in the middle of nowhere Iowa. But we’re not!

The Hurricanes claimed in 13th place at the 2025 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships back in March. Although their finish was highlighted by an NCAA title on the 1-meter springboard, they had three different swimmers score points in three different events.

Giulia Carvalho went 48.14 in the 100-yard freestyle. Simone Moll went 2:13.90 in the 200-yard breaststroke. Ashlyn Massey went 1:55.84 in the 200-yard butterfly.

Miami also finished in 10th place at the ACC Championships. The Hurricanes were ranked inside the top-25 for a good chunk of last season!

It must be noted, again, that the divers are the stars in Coral Gables. But it’s not like the swimmers are scrubs. To compete on the D-I level at a school like Miami means they are some of the best in the world.

They still could not sweep the men.

The ‘Frat boys’ won! (Kind of!)

Jory Richardson is a junior on the swim and dive team. She specializes in the backstroke and freestyle.

Her most recent video on TikTok documents a recent competition between the women’s swim team at Miami and a group of “frat boys.”

I do not know how this unique event came together but I would imagine it had something to do with philanthropy. Maybe they donated money to a good cause. Maybe it was a fundraiser for the team and/or the fraternity. Richardson did not provide many details.

I also do not know the level of talent on the men’s side. Perhaps these guys used to swim in high school. Maybe they are also members of the swimming and aquatics club.

There is a third piece to the equation for which I do not know as well. The “frat boys” might’ve had a time or distance advantage in each of the three races, but based on the video, I don’t think so.

Plus, the girls could’ve been tired from practice earlier that day.

With all of that being said, I was still surprised to see the results. Miami women’s swimming won the freestyle and the breaststroke races. The unnamed fraternity won the butterfly.

Perhaps I am naive but I did not expect the non-D1 swimmers to win a single race against these dudes. And yet, the final score finished at 2-1 in favor of the swim team, not 3-0.

Not to get political, because this became such a divisive topic at other, much angrier media outlets (and I really don’t care that much), but it just goes to show… Biological men have a biological advantage over biological women. Especially in the butterfly, I guess?
