For University of Michigan star baseball player and current New York Mets prospect Mitch Voit is a real person. The internet, however, is not entirely convinced.
After speaking to the media at Citi Field after being awarded Development Player of the Year, New York Mets 21-year-old infield prospect Mitch Voit went viral on social media for looking what many people considered to be AI-generated.

While part of the reaction has to do with how objectively handsome Voit is, there’s a cartoonish element to his looks that’s become associated with AI-generated animations.

“This is how the devil would look in a Disney channel original movie where he comes back and plays baseball,” explained one viral tweet.
“Not AI…they gotta get this kid to the show asap. Come on Barbie lets go party lookin ahh boi,” a second popular post read.
“When I create a character on MLB the show and set his eyes a little too wide,” a Barstool Sports personality joked.
“Wow. How is this a real person?! I can’t stop staring,” tweeted CBS Sports sideline reporter Ashley Nicole Moss
“He’s so handsome I thought this was AI,”… “This brother looks like he was generated by AI,” … “Whoever rendered him went crazy.”
After the video went viral, sports fans on social media also realized that Voit also went viral when he was playing college baseball at the University of Michigan after he celebrated safely sliding into third base by pretending to snort the chalk of the sideline as if it were drugs.

Voit was speaking to the media on Monday night after he was honored with the New York Mets’ Development Player of the Year award prior to the club’s game against the Baltimore Orioles at Citi Field.
The Mets selected Voit with the 38th overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft. Voit began 2026 assigned to the High-A Brooklyn Cyclones before being promoted to the AA Binghamton Rumble Ponies on July 27.
