The Iowa Hawkeyes had one of the worst offenses in college football this year.

Their running game has been awful. As a team they are averaging less than 3 yards per carry and under 100 yards per game on the ground.

Their passing attack hasn’t been any better. Spencer Petras completed just 55.9% of his pass attempts for 1725 yards and 5 touchdowns in 12 games.

The offense was so bad that it made history in one of their games this year. 2 weeks ago, the Hawkeyes played against Minnesota in a matchup that had an over/under of 31.5, which was the lowest in college football history. The game still went under with the teams combining for just 23 points.

Luckily for the Hawkeyes, it seems like things may finally be looking up. The team will still have a bowl game to get through with their disappointing offense, but they have some reinforcements coming for next season.

Yesterday, former Michigan starting quarterback Cade McNamara announced that he would be transferring to Iowa.

McNamara was the starter for Michigan last season and led the team to the College Football Playoff. He completed 64.2% of his pass attempts for 2576 yards and 15 touchdowns.

This season, McNamara was part of a quarterback competition against sophomore JJ McCarthy and came out on the wrong end of the competition. McCarthy has been a slight improvement statistically and Michigan once again finds themselves heading to the Playoff.

That has left McNamara without much to look forward to with the Wolverines and now he’s found himself a new opportunity in the Big 10.

He might not be a player who is going to turn Iowa into a juggernaut next season, but he should be an improvement over Petras. With the talent Iowa has on defense, McNamara will be expected to be good enough to keep the Hawkeyes competitive with the Big 10’s best teams.
