The majority of college coaches that are choosing to speak about NIL do nothing but complain and speak negatively about the state of college athletics. Notre Dame head basketball coach Mike Brey isn’t a member of that crowd.
Brey is fed up with all of the complaining going on about how college sports are changing. The 63-year-old is taking a very practical approach to the changing landscape and has a message for the haters.
“We got to stop complaining,” Brey told reporters at the ACC Spring Meetings. “This is the world we’re in. Last time I checked, we make pretty good money. So everybody should shut up and adjust.”
Brey’s message here is spot on. College athletes making money off of their name, image, and likeness is where we’re at now. The transfer portal, and all of these young athletes jumping from school to school, is also where we’re at right now.
The NCAA is trying to do something, in the most literal meaning of the word possible, about the issues surrounding NIL. The Division I Board of Directors approved new guidelines clarifying existing bylaws that prohibit boosters from being involved in recruiting.
While both the NIL and transfer portals are causing issues for some on the recruiting trail – and keeping players on your roster in general – coaches are paid millions of dollars to manage all of that.

Wait a minute I didn't think coaches were allowed to say reasonable things about NIL. https://t.co/iW9dHWs5D9
