In the biblical sense, swarms of insects were deployed as punishment in a representation of judgement, destruction, and a possible threat of the End Times. On Tuesday night in Mississippi, they wreaked havoc to end high school softball players’ playing time.
A swarm of termites caused a championship softball game to be postponed. It produced an eerie scene for those in attendance.
@blazemarienorman The termites ran us out the ball field last night 🤯😳 #mississippi #ballfieldmoms #fyp #fyppppppppppppppppppppppp #watchout

Swarm of termites causes softball postponement.
West Union and Sebastopol squared off in the opening contest of a championship series this week on the Southern Miss campus. The winner will have 1A bragging rights in the Magnolia State.
The Eagles of West Union went 27-4 this season on their way to the title set. The Bobcats were 27-9.
Each took the field on Tuesday night looking for a leg up in their championship pursuit. The winner would get one step closer to the crown. The loser would face elimination in Game 2.
Unfortunately, neither team would see the outcome decided.
Through four innings of play, West Union led 4-0. Both coaching staffs opted to have the game paused after the field was invaded by flying termites.

The game would be resumed on Wednesday. West Union won, 8-1.
The swarm of termites was apparently so thick it registered on the weather radar. Hattiesburg, Mississippi can be seen in the top right potion of the photo below.

There was no rain in the forecast at 8:30 PM last night. Only bugs!
Flying termite invasions are not new.
In fact, they are an annual occurrence. Each spring, the insects inevitably come out of hiding. The season typically lasts from February to June, though it seems mid-May is a particularly active time in the Sip.
@anitraozene78 I hate termites and wish they would hurry up and leave! I hate this time of year. They should have not been let on the ark😫 #SouthMississippi #swarmingseason #overitalready #fyp #fypシ
What causes the phenomenon? The bugs are in search of new homes where they can start new colonies.
The subterranean species, which infests Mississippi, typically swarms during the day in the spring or after a rainy period. The area has seen rainfall over the last few days.
Visuals of past swarms provide insight into how bothersome the instances can be.
@jakflorida It’s termite season. There Passing through Mississippi #fpy #biloximississippi #termites #bugs #trending
Some of the scenes are wild. Termites everywhere. Those exposed to the swarms face risk of having the flying insects invade their ears, nostrils, mouths, eyes, and more.
It looks like someone’s own personal Hell.
@stevecapwx 😮 TERMITE TAKEOVER It seems as though the termites were ready for a rager on Tuesday night after 4 days of heavy rain in the area. Thanks to our viewers for sharing some of these sights and sounds of the takeover. Remember, when termites are swarming, turn off any unnecessary lights to try and keep them from entering your home. Let us know if you were seeing them too! #termite #swarm @WAFB Channel 9
The termites came out to pester Mississippi once again this week. Hopefully, they won’t cause any other delays in the high school softball championship series moving forward.
