Los Angeles Dodgers star Mookie Betts will participate in the HR Derby on Monday, but he doesn’t seem to like his chances. The outfielder addressed the media at the All-Star festivities, offering a hilarious response about his outlook.

Betts doesn’t see himself as being much of a factor in the event, though he has been one of the top home run hitters in the MLB this season.

Through the first half of the year, Betts ranks third in the majors with 26 bombs, trailing only Shohei Ohtani and Matt Olson. The now seven-time All-Star is on pace for the highest total of his career.

While his power numbers have been up in 2023, he’s viewed as a longshot to win the Home Run Derby. According to the Vegas odds, Betts ranks seventh in the eight-man field at +1100.

Mookie Betts seems to agree with those HR Derby odds, saying he doesn’t stand much of a chance. “I think my chances are pretty low,” the superstar said when speaking with the media ahead of the event.

He didn’t completely rule out an upset, continuing on to say, “They’re pretty low, but they’re not zero.”

Still, it doesn’t bode much confidence for those hoping to see the outfielder take home the trophy. Fans online have been quick to post their commentary to the remarks.

“Horrendous vibes already,” this person posted. They might have a little money riding on a Betts win.

“Would have liked to see this, you know, this morning before I bet it,” another bettor posted.

Others think he’s just slow-playing fans.

“We’ve seen this deke job before from a dark horse,” this tweet read.

“He’s going to pull the upset,” someone else wrote.

Time will tell if Mookie Betts’ HR Derby prediction comes to fruition.
