Love was arrested August 24 in Boise, Idaho, and charged with wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Federal prosecutors say the scheme began in February 2022. Love allegedly met women on dating apps and claimed to be a 49ers player or a wealthy real estate investor. A co-defendant, Taylor Jamie Chan, 18, allegedly posed as his financial adviser.
Prosecutors say at least 26 victims have been identified, and the pair received about $1.3 million. Victims allegedly received no returns. Love was later indicted on a federal charge of wire fraud conspiracy and pleaded not guilty. He faces up to 20 years in federal prison if convicted. His trial is scheduled to begin December 15.
The case has already drawn Hollywood interest. Netflix is reportedly planning a documentary about Love titled Wide Deceiver as part of its Untold sports doc franchise.
The party was hosted by Brock Purdy and his wife, Jenna, who dressed as Sulley and Mike Wazowski from the Pixar movie Monsters, Inc.
Other guests at Purdy’s party kept things lighter. Tatyana Bass and Willis went as Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy from SpongeBob SquarePants. PFTCommenter joked that if the 49ers win the Super Bowl, “Love” should get a ring.
Hobbs is in his first season with the 49ers. He was drafted out of the University of Illinois by the Las Vegas Raiders in the 5th round of the 2021 NFL Draft. After spending the first four seasons of his career with the Raiders, Hobbs played in Green Bay last season before signing a one-year, $4.5 million contract with the Niners in March. Hobbs was placed on injured reserve prior to the start of the season due to a groin injury, though.
