Rapper Nelly revealed this week that Taylor Swift once paid him $50,000 for a three-minute concert appearance. That alone is pretty interesting, but how he received the money makes the story even better.
According to Nelly, he was handed a McDonald’s bag filled with $50,000 in cash. And, believe it or not, he actually requested the unusual packaging.
Nelly Reveals How Taylor Swift Paid Him $50,000 For Three Minutes Of Work
During an appearance on The Breakfast Club, Nelly recalled receiving an unexpected call from Taylor Swift, who asked him to perform one of his hit songs at a concert in Houston, Texas.
“She called me one night, just out of the blue, and said, ‘Yo, Nelly, listen, me and my friends, we made a routine to Hot in Herre last night and I wanna ask you a really big favor… I got two shows in Houston tomorrow and the next day. Can you come down to Houston and just perform it?” he recalled.
There was just one problem. Swift said she didn’t have much of a budget.
Her offer? $50,000, a private jet to transport him from St. Louis, and a hotel room. Oh, to have budget problems like that.
Nelly said he agreed to the appearance and jokingly asked if she could put the money in a McDonald’s bag.
Sure enough, after his performance, someone from Taylor Swift’s team handed him a McDonald’s bag containing $50,000 in cash.
The rapper added that he would have performed for Swift for free. Not that he was going to turn down $50,000 for three minutes of work.
Taylor Swift’s Spending Has Been Making Headlines Recently
Nelly’s story comes just days after another report about Taylor Swift’s extravagant spending made headlines.
According to Page Six, decorations from Swift and Travis Kelce’s reported $30 million wedding at Madison Square Garden were allegedly transported to Pennsylvania and destroyed.
An unnamed source claimed the decorations were burned to prevent people from stealing pieces and reselling them. The source claimed Swift herself didn’t personally order their destruction, and the allegations haven’t been independently confirmed.
Interestingly, Nelly and his wife, Ashanti, reportedly attended Swift and Kelce’s wedding, and Ashanti later described the ceremony as magical. So Nelly apparently has experienced Taylor Swift’s generosity more than once.
