Netflix announced on Wednesday that it plans to release a docuseries this summer that details the everyday life of an NFL signal caller. The show, which is titled “Quarterback,” follows a trio of pro passers through the 2022 season.
Those players are Kirk Cousins, Marcus Mariota, and Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes. Football fans were quick to react after hearing the announcement.
Here’s more on the series in a press release from Netflix.
Launching in summer 2023, the series will allow fans to see through the lens of quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins and Marcus Mariota, who, for the first time ever, are mic’d up for every single game. From the beginning of the 2022 season to its conclusion, the cameras will follow the starting QBs from inside the huddle with their teammates to inside their homes with their families.
And what a season it’s been. Mahomes shattered the record for most offensive yards in a single season, and clinched a Super Bowl victory with his Kansas City Chiefs. Minnesota Vikings quarterback Cousins engineered what could be the greatest comeback in the history of the league. Mariota, meanwhile, joined the Atlanta Falcons for a roller-coaster first season.
Mahomes’s production company, 2PM, is actually helping with the docuseries in addition to NFL Films. He spoke a little bit about the opportunity, and what fans should expect before tuning in.
“I’m excited for fans to get an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at an unforgettable season for the entire Chiefs organization and for my family. From welcoming home a new baby in the middle of the season to welcoming the Lombardi trophy back to Kansas City, our crew was there for it all. This new Netflix series will show the time, preparation and balance that it takes to be an NFL quarterback and perform on the biggest stage.”
This is just the latest in Netflix’s deep dive into the world of sports, also having released shows like “Full Swing” and “Break Point” within the last year.
Fans were quick to respond to the most recent announcement, posting their replies on social media.
Some commented on the quarterbacks selected for the docuseries.

Odd choice to follow Kirk and Mariota 😂

Others debated which would be the most entertaining player to follow. Kirk Cousins was a popular pick.
Lowkey Kirk Cousins gonna be the best follow. Dude won the craziest games of the year, plus was dripped out after the wins. Had the best team success of his career, then they lose in the playoffs. Gonna be a solid story arch from him.

Oh man I hope we get audio of Kirk checking it down short of the sticks on 4th
“Oh fiddlesticks maybe ol Hocky can do it”

And what about the awkward situation in Atlanta when Mariota was benched for rookie Desmond Ridder?
They gonna edit out Marcus Mariota quitting on the team?

There, of course, are some not thrilled about the idea of watching Brittany and Jackson Mahomes…
we don’t need to see Mahomes’ family anymore than we have to.

But it should be an interesting series to follow, given the different career paths of each passer.
Honestly, this is a pretty interesting spread of QBs. You got the current #1, a decent mid-tier QB, and a journeyman. Will be interesting to see all the different perspectives and how they approach the position.

“Quarterback” will give viewers a way to pass the time over the offseason.
