Legendary New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick was the subject of heavy scrutiny following a recent Apple TV documentary on the Pats dynasty.

But one former New England star isn’t getting in on the act.

Instead, former NFL Defensive Player of the Year Stephon Gilmore is coming to the defense of Belichick, calling him the “greatest coach I’ve ever been around.”

Just watched The Dynasty. Bill was the greatest coach I’ve ever been around. Don’t let that fool you,” Gilmore tweeted. I’ll never forget we were a predominantly man team during the 2018 season all the way up to the Super Bowl. When we played the Rams we switched to Zone.”

Patriots Documentary Morphed Into Bill Belichick Hit Piece

Several former Patriots players and even team owner Robert Kraft have used the documentary to take shots at Belichick, who was not retained following the 2023 season.

“Tom and I had a number of discussions about how Bill treated him,” Kraft said about Brady leaving. “Basically, it was a silent relationship. It was just totally dysfunctional.”

Former star wide receiver Wes Welker likened the relationship between Brady and Belichick to that of an abused dog who repeatedly returned to its owner.

“It was brutal,” special teams star Matthew Slater said in the show.

While Rob Gronkowski said he would show up to Patriots practice and have difficulty getting out of his car to go to work due to the rift between Brady and Belichick.

The documentary has since morphed into what looks like a hit piece against Belichick.

But it’s clear Gilmore wasn’t having any of it.

Belichick was also interviewed for the film. He’s featured in several segments. Though, in classic Bill Belichick fashion, he doesn’t go into detail about several topics.

Now it appears the tide is turning as players begin to defend the six-time Super Bowl winner.
