Jets Could Pursure Another Of Aaron Rodgers’ Washed-Up Buddies To Keep Him Happy

Aaron Rodgers wasn’t the only former member of the Green Bay Packers that the New York Jets acquired last offseason.

In addition to Rodgers, the Jets also brought in wide receivers Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb, backup quarterback Tim Boyle, and offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett.

Now, while Rodgers was the only one of this group to suffer a season-ending injury, the lot of them were all equal amounts of useless. Lazard and Cobb barely contributed to the offense, Boyle was cut midseason, and the only reason that Hackett is still employed is because the Jets are worried about upsetting their 40-year-old quarterback.

There has even been speculation that the Jets apparently haven’t learned from their mistakes (shocker) and that they could pursue 32-year-old offensive lineman David Bakhtiari, another of Rodgers’ cronies, in a trade.

According to the recent bombshell report from The Athletic, the Jets actually tried to trade for Bakhtiari last year, suggesting they could kick the tires on him again in the coming months, which is exactly what Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report had to say.

A Bakhtiari conditional pick could start as a fourth-rounder but elevate to a third if he plays in more than 50 percent of the offensive snaps and becomes a second-rounder if the Jets extend him beyond the final year of his contract. [via Bleacher Report]

Given that Bakhtiari is 32-year-old and coming off a serious knee injury, investing draft capital in him would be an undeniable risk for the Jets.

Then again, the team has also shown a clear willingness to give Rodgers whatever he wants in order to keep him happy despite the fact that he’s yet to complete a single official pass for the team.
