The 2025 NFL Draft is set to begin Thursday night in Green Bay, Wisconsin, as all 32 teams will look to make the moves that take them to the Super Bowl next year. By far, the most polarizing prospect in the entire draft is Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

Sanders is projected by some to go as high as the top five, and as low as in the mid-second round, as teams have widely different grades on him and it will ultimately come down to how desperate someone is to get a quarterback. But, a recent report that quoted an NFL assistant coach that was absolutely trashing him is not gonna help his cause.

Sanders, the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer and current Colorado coach Deion Sanders, put up gaudy numbers the last two years in Boulder after moving with his dad from Jackson State to Colorado. His proponents would say that his accuracy, playmaking skills, timing, and patience in the pocket will make him a franchise quarterback. His detractors would say that he has no elite tools, holds on to the ball too long, and has serious character concerns.

Those character concerns, according to NFL.com insider Tom Pelissero, were echoed by an assistant coach recently.

One longtime NFL assistant coach said his time with Sanders was “the worst formal interview I’ve ever been in in my life. He’s so entitled. He takes unnecessary sacks. He never plays on time. He has horrible body language. He blames teammates. … But the biggest thing is, he’s not that good.”

A team executive echoed a similar sentiment.

Said one longtime AFC executive: “It didn’t go great in our interview. He wants to dictate what he’s going to do and what’s best for him. He makes you feel small.”

Shedeur Sanders definitely has his fans, as Pelissero noticed that Charles Davis and Tom Pelissero are both high on him. But, it seems like a lot of teams are really worried about his character.
