An NFL bettor is having immediate buyer’s remorse after purchasing a Brock Purdy MVP ticket. The gambler bought the slip on Prop Swap, taking it off the hands of someone that placed the bet in the preseason.

It quickly backfired as Purdy had his worst performance of the year in a loss to Baltimore, tumbling down the MVP standings as a result.

The purchase came late last week with Purdy leading the race for the postseason honor. At the time, the San Francisco QB held around -200 odds, putting him above players like Dak Prescott and Lamar Jackson.

There were many around the league, including Purdy himself, that didn’t believe he’d be the ultimate recipient, arguing that his superstar supporting cast makes it easier to post impressive numbers while simply managing the game.

Still, his NFC-leading 3,795 passing yards and 29 touchdown throws gave sportsbooks no other choice than to list him as the favorite.

This bettor wasn’t one of those doubters, and he believed Purdy would post similar numbers while leading the Super Bowl contending 49ers over the last three weeks of the season.

The bettor scooped up a ticket with a potential $202,000 payout, laying down $125,000 in the deal.

That original ticket had been placed preseason for $2,000 with Purdy’s MVP odds sitting at 100/1, yielding a $120,000 win for buyer No. 1.

It seems the slip sold at the right time.

A few short days after that swap, the passer posted possibly his worst performance as a pro. Purdy threw four interceptions against the Ravens, failing to find the endzone in a 33-19 loss.

Brock Purdy slipped from first to third in the MVP race after that disastrous outing, now being listed behind both Lamar Jackson and teammate Christian McCaffrey.

It seems unlikely that he’d jump both over the final two weeks of the regular season, especially considering he shares a backfield with CMC.

That being said, this could wind up being the quickest waste of $125,000 we’ve seen this NFL season.

An unwanted Christmas surprise this holiday season.
