Sometimes, social media managers make a mistake that proceeds to put them in a very, very awkward position. That was certainly the case on Thursday night and you can’t help but feel for the person who made the blunder.

At this current point in time, there is a lot going on in the world.

On one end of the spectrum, there is the NFL Combine. On the other, there is the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

When you accidentally combine the two, it leads to quite the awkward, ill-timed situation. The NFL was at the forefront of that uncomfortable situation during the Quarterback session in Indianapolis.

In sports, particularly in football, saying that someone is “dropping bombs” or “throwing nukes” is an expression that is often used for a massive throw. Thus, when Liberty quarterback Malik Willis tore it up with his deep ball, whomever was on the keys for the NFL on Thursday decided to use a similar expression.

However, he or she chose a poor time to do so.

In a since-deleted tweet, the NFL posted that “Malik Willis has hit the LAUNCH CODES,” meaning that he was dropping nuclear bombs.

Considering what is going on in eastern Europe, it was not a good time to reference anything nuclear. It was a mistake and they rightfully pulled it down.

As someone who has worked in social, that feeling is truly the worst. Whomever posted the tweet was simply trying to get creative and spice things up.

Instead, without thinking about the bigger picture because he/she was so hyper-focused on the Combine in front of him/her, he/she totally messed up. It was insensitive, but it was an accident. In that moment, all he/she wanted to do was curl up into a ball.

It’s such a demoralizing feeling. Obviously, it should not have been posted, but it was such a tough break for the social manager with twitter fingers.
