As we entered NFL Draft week this week, there was one surprising name that had crept his way into the conversation to be the draft’s 2nd pick.

Instead of going with the expected option of CJ Stroud, the Houston Texans have instead decided to look at options on the defensive side of the ball.

While the initial assumption was that this meant they’d be looking a drafting Will Anderson, Tyree Wilson was at one point rumored to be the player they were actually interested in.

Anderson has settled in as the betting favorite for the pick and there are rumors that CJ Stroud is back in the mix, which could leave Wilson waiting a bit longer to hear his name called.

Based on a new report, that wait could last a little while longer than fans might expect.

According to Bill Zimmerman, some teams around the NFL are concerned about Tyree Wilson’s medicals.

Wilson suffered a foot injury in the middle of November during a game against Kansas that required surgery and caused him to miss the rest of the season. He later had another procedure to remove hardware from the foot.

The injury kept him from participating in anything but the bench press at the NFL Combine and then he was unable to participate in Texas Tech’s Pro Day.

Health concerns can have a huge impact on a player’s draft stock. Last year, Nakobe Dean was projected to be drafted in the middle of round 1. He slipped to round 3 because teams were concerned about him not getting a torn pec repaired.

It is very unlikely that Wilson’s slide would be anywhere close to that, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see him fall a bit if teams are worried about that injury.

We’ll jut have to wait and see how far that fall is tonight.
