College football was chock full of upsets in Week 2. The Texas Longhorns nearly pulled off the biggest upset of the year after losing to the Alabama Crimson Tide by just one point. After the game, head coach Nick Saban reacted to the Longhorns’ incredible play and gave them the ultimate praise.

Nick Saban Praises Texas After Alabama Escapes Upset

According to Sports Illustrated, Texas played so well that they clearly impressed Nick Saban. The Longhorns are set to enter the SEC in 2024. However, it sounds like they’re ready for the conference change right now. Saban claims, “this is like playing an SEC game on the road. They’re going to be in the SEC. If they were in the SEC now, they’d probably be in the top half of the league.”

Wow. It’s been a while since we’ve seen Texas truly competitive in college football. If this is how Nick Saban feels about that program then the Longhorns may officially be back! It probably helps that Steve Sarkisian is the head coach as well, as he clearly knows how to coach a football team after working with Saban for years.

Considering we haven’t seen Texas play that great in recent years, this has to be music to Longhorns fans’ ears. Even though they were unable to defeat Alabama, they’ve put themselves back on the map as a future contender down the road. If that’s the case, then it sounds like the Crimson Tide is going to have more competition in the SEC in 2024.
