North Carolina baseball fans took full advantage of a $1 hot dog deal during a midweek matchup against Coastal Carolina. Unfortunately, most were sick to their stomachs by the time the promo ended.
The Tar Heels played a disgusting brand of baseball in a blowout loss. It sent the crowd home feeling ill.
That poor performance does not take away from the absolute damage done to the cheap footlongs in a limited timeframe. Fans devoured 350 pounds of frankfurters across the first few innings of the contest.

The school advertised the $1 deal on social media before first pitch. It was a fun promo to get fans to the ballpark for a Top 10 matchup.
The deal, according to social media users, lasted the first two innings of play. The stadium put an end to the promo after running out of items, though some suggest full price hot dogs were later made available to patrons.
The marketing tactic worked. Boshamer Stadium sold out with a reported crowd of 4,405 attendees. Those fans went on to set a venue record for hot dog consumption.
An estimated 3,200 franks were purchased and eaten. It set a new stadium mark.
The average hot dog weighs between 1.6 and 1.9 ounces based on a quick Google search. That’s right around 1/10th of a pound.
Quick math puts the total somewhere between 320 and 380 pounds of processed meat.
Unfortunately, the home team did little else to make the night enjoyable. The Tar Heels were blown out by 10 runs.
Coastal Carolina dominated.
North Carolina entered the night ranked second in the college baseball polls. The Chants, meanwhile, boasted a No. 9 rating. It was a heavyweight showdown.
The Tar Heels fueled fans early as they enjoyed the dollar-dogs during the first two innings. UNC jumped out to a quick 2-1 lead. They’d be held scoreless across their final seven at-bats.
Coastal Carolina racked up 12 runs on 15 hits. The pitching staff struck out 10 North Carolina batters to keep the opposing offense in check. It left with a convincing 12-2 victory on the road.
The loss was the Tar Heels’ ninth of the season. It put a bad taste in the hungry crowd’s mouth.
The team will look to rebound in its next game against Queens.
