Notre Dame Wide Receiver Braden Lenzy May Have Made The Catch Of The Year In College Football

It appeared for a while as if the 2022 college football season would be one to forget for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and first-year head coach Marcus Freeman. The Irish began the year ranked in the top five of the AP Poll. They looked deserving of that ranking after a tough, but close loss to Ohio State in Columbus in Week 1.

But things spiraled from there. Notre Dame lost again in Week 2 in embarrassing fashion to Marshall. Freeman picked up the first win of his career against Cal in Week 3, which seemed to steady the ship. Notre Dame won three games in a row before it all came crashing down to earth with a loss to struggling Stanford in Notre Dame Stadium.

Since then, however, Freeman appears to have gotten his team on track. The Fighting Irish have won three consecutive games, including a blowout victory over fourth-ranked Clemson a week ago to vault itself back into the Top 25 with a 6-3 record.

Notre Dame looked to continue that momentum on Saturday as a huge favorite against visiting Navy, and wide receiver Braden Lenzy did everything he could to help the cause.

Notre Dame Wide Receiver Catches Both The Ball And A Navy Defender For A Touchdown.

Lenzy came to South Bend as a four-star recruit out of Portland, Oregon according to 247Sports. He played sparingly in his first two years on campus, but made 32 receptions for 350 yards and three touchdowns a year ago,.

This year has been a bit of a struggle. Lenzy had just 14 catches for 128 yards and one score prior to Saturday. But he may have just broken that slump.

With the Irish up 7-0 already, quarterback Drew Pyne launched a ball up for Lenzy. The ball was underthrown, but it didn’t matter. Lenzy reached back and caught the ball AND the defender for the touchdown.

Fans on Twitter couldn’t believe what they had just seen.

Catch of the year? We’ll let you decide.
