The women of the LSU Tigers basketball team weren’t the only ones who had a big weekend competing for a national championship.

Olivia Dunne and the sixth-ranked LSU gymnastics team also advanced to the 2023 NCAA Championships with a Elite 8 berth after finishing second to the University of Denver.

“The beat goes on. We weren’t perfect, but this team just continues to fight and do enough to keep it going,” said head coach Jay Clark. “I’m just so proud of them and their spirt and who they are as people. They do it for each other. This is a special group and it makes it that much sweeter that we got through it in the fashion that we did against some very good teams.”

Not that Olivia Dunne had much to with the Tigers advancing on to Fort Worth to compete in the NCAA Semifinals on Thursday, April 13.

She once again did not compete, but her teammates were able to move on after winning in a tiebreaker with the University of Michigan on Sunday. They also recorded the second highest regional score in school history.

Despite not competing, she still celebrated with her teammates including Elena Arenas, who posted the top vault score on the team and also competed in the balance beam and the floor exercise.

“It’s a great day to be a Tiger,” Livvy wrote in the comments to a TikTok video she posted with Arenas from their hotel room.

Next, the Tigers will go up against second-ranked Florida, #7 California and #14 Denver at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth for a berth in the National Championship on Saturday, April 15.

On the other side of the bracket is top-ranked Oklahoma, #4 UCLA, #5 Utah and #9 Kentucky.

LSU lost to Utah in week two, Kentucky in week 3, and Oklahoma in week 4. On the plus side of the ledger, the Tigers beat Florida and California in weeks 8 and 9.
