Pirates’ SS Oneil Cruz Might Have Just Ripped The Hardest Hit Single Of All Time

Oneil Cruz continues to display remarkable athleticism and ability on the baseball diamond after hitting quite possibly the hardest hit single of all time.

The Pirates’ shortstop has already made a mark in his rookie season, taking the baseball world by storm in his first ever appearance. In that debut, he recorded the hardest thrown ball from an infielder all season. Now, he’s making history at the dish.

In Pittsburgh’s Wednesday afternoon matchup with Atlanta, Cruz absolutely crushed a pitch from Kyle Wright off the right field wall. I mean an absolute rope that was a few feet from clearing the 21-foot fence on a line.

Oneil Cruz rips 122 MPH hit in matchup vs. Atlanta

The ball came off the bat at 122.4 MPH. That’s the hardest hit ball in the history of Statcast technology. Unfortunately, the rocket line drive was hit too hard for Cruz to nab extra bases.

The right fielder easily corralled the careen off the top of the wall to limit the shortstop to a single.

Unfortunately, that would be about the only thing that Pirates fans had to cheer about in this series. Pittsburgh is down 14-0, looking down the barrel of a brutal sweep to Atlanta. The Braves have outscored the Pirates 22-2 over the last three games as their losing ways continue.

But hey, at least the fans can take solace in knowing that Cruz will be in Pittsburgh for a little bit longer. That is until the front office decides that he’s not worth the asking price, as they do with most of their young stars.
