The University of Oregon is an attractive place to go play football. After all, who wouldn’t want all that cool Nike gear and sweet facilities they have to offer in Eugene?
And, in the past, the school has landed some great recruits. Guys like running back Deanthony Thomas and pass rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux were arguably tops in the country in their respective classes.
Both of those guys are from Southern California, and that’s an area the Ducks have to excel at in recruiting to be good. There just aren’t that many great players from the state of Oregon. And, there are plenty of great players from Southern California. They already had one five-star in this class from California, albeit Northern California, in Jurrion Dickey. And, now, they have landed another.
Oregon secured the commitment of five-star defense end Matayo Uiagalelei on signing day
Matayo Uiagalelei was one of the bestuncommitted players left on the market heading into early signing day Wednesday. The little brother of former Clemson quarterback DJ Uiagalelei is a monster prospect. He’s listed as 6-5, 260lb with plus athleticism.
And, on Wednesday, he decided to be an Oregon Duck. He chose Oregon over Ohio State, Clemson, USC, UCLA, and others.

It’s unclear why he is in the hospital. Still, it’s another big signing day win for Oregon that has had a few of them today. They flipped five-star safety Peyton Bowen from Notre Dame and flipped four-star quarterback Austin Novosad from Baylor
Quite the day for Dan Lanning’s Ducks, who now are firmly inside the top ten of the team recruiting rankings for the class of 2023.
