Former South African Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius is reportedly struggling with being ostracized since he was released from prison.
Once a darling of the sports world, Oscar Pistorius was found guilty of culpable homicide in the killing of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in 2013.
Pistorius claimed that he thought the 29-year-old model and paralegal was an intruder when shot her multiple times through a bathroom door in his house.
He first became eligible for parole in 2021 after serving just six years in prison, but was not released on parole until January 5, 2024.
Since his release, Oscar Pistorius has reportedly been having a rough time finding employment and has been ostracized by many of his friends.
“He’s too toxic to work with now,” one of the members of the International Paralympic Committee told the New York Post. “There’s nothing for him here.”
The now 37-year-old Pistorius, who has been living in his uncle’s “luxurious three-story mansion” (pictured below), according to the Post, had reached out to at least two members of the International Paralympic Committee looking for work.

As part of his release from prison, Oscar Pistorius is required to be checked in on by a parole officer at random hours of the day or night, is subject to alcohol and drug testing, is not allowed any contact with Reeva Steenkamp’s family, cannot post on social media or give interviews, and cannot write a memoir. He does not, however, have to wear an electronic monitor.
Pistorius currently does light maintenance and janitorial work at NG Kerk Waterkloof, a Christian church in Pretoria.
One person who has seen him at the church told the Post that she “almost didn’t recognize him” because his hair is longer and has a beard now and isn’t as lean as he used to be.
“You would never know he was an athlete,” she said.
Another church member said that Pistorius isn’t friendly or outgoing and rarely, if ever, smiles.
“He’s just a shadow of what he once was,” the church member said.
