Paige Spiranac Demonstrates And Explains How To Hit The Hardest Bunker Shots

Popular golf influencer Paige Spiranac is back with another one of her special instructional videos. This week she explains and demonstrates how to hit the hardest bunker shots.

“I did the scariest short game shots and a couple of you requested bunker,” Paige begins her latest YouTube video. “Difficult lies, difficult stances, and so we’re going to go through all of the most, worst, scariest bunker shots that you will get out on the golf course.”

The first tough bunker shot Spiranac shows how to hit is the “fried egg” lie, of which she says there are two types.

Spiranac explains that you can use a 50 degree wedge or a 54 or a 56 or 60 degree wedge, but she always chooses the 54.

“I hit it for everything around the greens,” Paige says.

As she demonstrates how to hit a golf ball out of this tough bunker lie, Spiranac explains, “With a fried egg you want to come down right behind it. I like to think of this analogy of like a ketchup packet and if you want the ketchup to fly out you’re going to hit hard down on the back of it to make the ketchup fly out of the packet. And so that’s kind of the visual that I want you to think about when you have a fried egg.”

She also adds, “The most important thing is when you have a lie like this is to manage your expectations. We’re just trying to get the ball out of the bunker. We’re not even thinking about how close we can get this.”

The next shot she shows how to hit out of a bunker is when the golf ball is buried in the sand.

Then she gets into how to hit bunker shots when your feet are on different levels, such as one foot in the trap and one on the grass, as well how to hit with both downhill as well as uphill slopes.

Watch Paige Spiranac demonstrate and explain how to properly hit each shot in the video below and, as she says at the end, “Hopefully you [will] have so much more confidence in yourself to execute and to pull it off.”
