- Paige Spiranac thinks Phil Mickelson is “fake.”

- She claims her being blocked came out of nowhere.
Paige Spiranac has a combined 4 million followers between her Instagram and Twitter accounts. She’s by far and away the most followed golf personality on social media and garners headlines essentially anytime she posts something.
The latest Spiranac story has to do with Phil Mickelson, specifically her calling him “fake” because she blocked him on social media.
Spiranac recently appeared on ‘The Bunkered Golf Podcast‘ and explained that the two had worked together in the past. She thought that they were on good terms, because there was no reason not to be, but then she discovered he had blocked her.
“I was working with Mizzen+Main at the time and so he was like, ‘That’s really cool that we have that connection. I love what you do on social media.’ And so I was like, ‘Thanks Phil, you’re awesome,'” Spiranac explained.
She went on to say that they ran into each other at the Phoenix Open years later and all was good. It was after Mickelson shocked the world and won the 2021 PGA Championship when Spiranac noticed she had gotten blocked by the lefty.
“I was like, ‘Let’s go Phil’, gassing him up, saying the nicest things about him but then I was looking [on social media] and I was like, ‘I can’t freaking tag him. Why can’t I tag him?’ So, I was looking and looking and I clicked on somebody else’s tag and it said ‘blocked’.”
“He DM’d me the next day and he was like, ‘I’m sorry, I don’t know what happened. It must have been a glitch in the system’ and I was like, ‘Okay, fine, congrats on your PGA win’. Next day, blocked again. Not only that but he blocked me on Instagram, too.”
“I am anti-Phil now because that’s just pig-s–t. Now I just say whatever about Phil because I think he’s a little – I can already see the headlines now, “Paige says Phil’s fake” – but I think he is,” she explained.
Paige Spiranac Isn’t A Phil Mickelson Fan Anymore
Spiranac is now “coming for” Mickelson because he, or someone on his social team, hit the block button.
“I mean, just keep me blocked then. I don’t care. But like I say, I have never said anything bad about Phil… until now. Because if you block me, I’m coming for you,” Spiranac explained.
Professional athletes block people on social media all the time, this isn’t something new.
Spiranac making somewhat of a big deal about Mickelson blocking her seems like it’s simply a play from her to create some headlines. That, or she’s really not used to being blocked by any middle-aged men on social media, and this whole thing has thrown her off.
It’s not a bad strategy on her part, by any means, if it is just a play from Spiranac. Plus, at the end of the day, Mickelson likely won’t see any of her bad-mouthing of him because, of course, he has her blocked.
