It is widely believed that Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will become the first NFL player to achieve billionaire status. This is due to a vast portfolio of savvy investments.

Brittany and Patrick Mahomes’ current profile includes owning 30 Whataburger fast food franchises as well as huge investments in Whoop and Hyperice. The Mahomes family are also part owners of the Kansas City Royals, Sporting KC, and most recently, in a professional pickleball franchise.

Now, Brittany and Patrick Mahomes are celebrating becoming owners of yet another Kansas City professional sports franchise, the Kansas City Current.

Patrick’s caption reads “I am thankful for the chance to join @brittanylynne as part of the Kansas City Current’s ownership team. She and the Longs have done an incredible job building a world-class organization and I am excited to join another championship-caliber club as it continues to make history. @kccurrent.

Brittany Mahomes hijacked the top comment on Patrick’s IG post with “Let’s gooo👏🏼💯”. She also released a statement saying “We are so thrilled to make this a family affair and have Patrick join as an owner. He has been a huge supporter behind-the-scenes. His passion for the Current is undeniable and I am glad that he will be with us as we continue on our journey to become the best in the NWSL.”

The Mahomes’ new partners, Current co-owners Angie and Chris Long, said “Patrick is obviously a once-in-a-generation athlete and someone who has had an immeasurable impact on the Kansas City community. Working with Brittany has been a blessing. We are elated to now partner with Patrick too. The Mahomes are truly a remarkable family.”

Regardless of your feelings towards soccer, this is exciting. In October 2021, the ownership group unveiled plans for a $117-million soccer-specific stadium at Berkley Riverfront Park. It is going to be the “first soccer stadium purpose-built for a National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) team.”

The addition of Patrick and Brittany Mahomes to the ownership group brings this 11,500-person capacity stadium one step closer to reality.

KC Current, Whoop, Adidas Football, and plenty of others hopped into the comment section to congratulate the Mahomes family on expanding their empire.

For anyone keeping track at home, that puts the number of professional sports franchises in Kansas City that Patrick Mahomes is a partial owner of at 4. That’s the same number of MVPs Aaron Rodgers has.

The Kansas City Current finished 5th in the 2022 NWSL standings but just 4 points off the champion OL Reign. They had a record of 10-6-6 (5-1-5 at home) and somehow managed to finish the season with a perfect ‘0’ goal differential of 29 goals scored and 29 goals conceded.

Patrick Mahomes is on the path to becoming a billionaire

Since becoming the Chiefs’ starter in 2018, Patrick Mahomes won an MVP, Super Bowl, Super Bowl MVP, went back to another Super Bowl, and an AFC Championship. He’s been delivering value on every cent of his 10-year, $503,000,000 contract from the Chiefs.

To date, Mahomes has earned $47,454,472 in contract money. Over the next 10 seasons, that number will climb to $491,454,472. How exactly does he get from there to being the first-ever billionaire NFL player? ‘Business of Sports’ reporter and Twitter user @AndrewPetcash breaks it down in an easily digestible thread.

Here’s How Patrick Mahomes Will Become The NFL’s First Billionaire Player:

It’s pretty remarkable how many endorsements Mahomes has and how infrequently we hear him speak in TV commercials.

You might recognize Hyperice as the company behind the Hypervolt sports massager. I’ve got one and swear by it for recovery after long-distance runs.

It’s worth noting that Patrick could make some bad investments in the future that change these numbers. In fact, it would be weird if he didn’t make some bad investments at some point in his career as nobody gets it right 100% of the time. That said, life’s been good to him so far.

What Doesn’t Patrick Mahomes Own At This Point?

If Patrick Mahomes could open a 31st Whataburger and do that in my hometown in Southwest Florida I’d be a happy camper. Or rather, if someone from Whataburger can drop me an email about opening up a franchise myself that’d be great. I’m sure I could come up with the franchise fee easily if it meant bringing Whataburger to Florida’s Southwest.

As it stands, the nearest locations to me are Jacksonville and Tallahassee. It’d be quicker for me to fly to the Dallas airport and crush a burger there. Patrick Mahomes clearly understands people like myself who use Hypervolt massagers and love Whataburger. I’m literally his target demographic for investing even if he doesn’t know it.

It’s unclear when Patty will become a billionaire but it is certainly in his future. I can’t help but wonder though, is the injury risk of playing in the NFL worth it if you are worth a billion dollars off the field?
