During the first half of Super Bowl 58, the San Francisco 49ers were feeling themselves as they dominated the Kansas City Chiefs in the early goings of the game.

Footage from NFL Films has revealed that, while the Niners had the Chiefs on the ropes in the first half, safety Tashaun Gipson Sr. told his teammates that Patrick Mahomes “is just a regular f—— quarterback.”

Unsurprisingly, Gipson Sr. ultimately ate his words and Mahomes displayed what makes him so special in the second half and in overtime.

Check out the footage of the 49ers foolishly thinking that Mahomes — who is literally a perfect 7-for-7 in extremely clutch situations — is a mere mortal QB below.

During his speech at the Chiefs championship parade, prior to the tragic shooting, Mahomes’ wife Brittany cut in during his speech to remind him of the 49ers’ “regular quarterback” comments, which led to the three-time Super Bowl winner saying:

“I’m a regular quarterback, it is what it is. I gotta give a shoutout to that defense. Can I hear it for the defense? It’s crazy, a defense can win the Super Bowl and still be underrated, and that’s what those boys have been doing. Can I get a shoutout for Harrison Butker? Can I get a shoutout for Tommy Townsend? Can I get a shoutout for James Winchester?”

In Super Bowl 58 — the fourth time he’s started in the big game — Mahomes completed 34 of 46 passes for 333 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception, and ran the ball 9 times for 66 yards en route to winning his third Super Bowl MVP award.
