A new shocking camera angle or piece of information regarding what unfolded during the overtime coin toss at Super Bowl 58 seems to be making headlines virtually every day since the big game.

Earlier in the week, for example, footage was released that caught the giddy reactions of the Kansas City Chiefs players when they found out that the San Francisco 49ers had elected to receive the ball.

Now, slow-motion, close-up footage from NFL Turning Point has hilariously revealed Patrick Mahomes’ stunned reaction upon realizing that 49ers captain Fred Warner had chosen to receive after winning the crucial coin toss.

“That’s the look of a man that couldn’t believe he’s getting his 3rd ring,” said one viral quote tweet of the video, which racked up over 100,000 likes.

According to 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan, the team wanted to have the ball on the third possession so they would be able to win the game on that drive.

That third possession never came to be, however, as the Chiefs were able to hold the Niners to a field goal before Mahomes drove down the field for the game-winning touchdown.

While the decision to receive was already highly scrutinized at the moment, questions surrounding Shanahan’s decision have only become more pronounced given the reaction of the Chiefs’ sideline, which was in virtual disbelief over the 49ers’ choice to willingly give Patrick Mahomes the ball with the chance to win the game.

Even if the 49ers had scored a touchdown, Chiefs players revealed after the game that the plan would’ve been to go for the two-point conversion had they been able to answer the Niners with a touchdown drive of their own, thus ending the game whether they failed or converted.

“We talked through this for two weeks. How we was going to give the ball to the opponent; if they scored, we was going for two at the end of the game. We rehearsed it,” star defensive tackle Chris Jones told the media after the game.

With the win over Brock Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl 58, the Chiefs have now won three Super Bowl titles in the last four years and became the first time to repeat as champions since the 2003-2004 New England Patriots.
