As the NFL world gears up for Conference Championship Sunday, there’s one question at the forefront of most fans’ minds: how healthy is Patrick Mahomes?

While the Kansas City Chiefs were able to defeat the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC Divisional Round last weekend, the win came at a significant cost as Mahomes — who’s favored to win the MVP award this year — suffered a high-ankle sprain.

Despite the injury, though, Mahomes immediately claimed he intended on playing in the AFC Championship against the Bengals, which is a sentiment he echoed when speaking to the media on Wednesday.

“It’s doing good. A few days of treatment, a few days of rehab,” Mahomes said. “Excited to be on the practice field and kind of test it out and see where I’m at. But, it’s feeling good so far.”

“I was able to do some extra testing, just to make sure everything was good the night after the game. And then get a few things done to help the treatment kind of start off. And then the next few days has kind of been an all-day thing where you’re either doing treatment, or rehab, or watching film.

In the game against the Jaguars, Mahomes put forth a gutsy performance in which he completed 22 of 30 passes for 195 yards and two touchdowns.

Heading into Sunday’s AFC Championship against Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals — who won the AFC title game at Arrowhead Field last year — Mahomes and the Chiefs are actually underdogs, as the Bengals are currently favored by 1.5 points.

Regardless of the injury to his ankle, Mahomes is clearly anticipating the rematch with the Bengals as he fired off a simple yet effective message to them on Sunday following their 27-10 victory over the Buffalo Bills:
