The Philadelphia Eagles fell just short of an NFL championship on Sunday, losing 38-35 to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl. The Eagles led throughout the first three quarters, but second half struggles eventually caught up to them.

Kansas City was able to grab its first lead of the game in the fourth quarter, and they’d kick a game-winning field goal in the final seconds of action.

The defeat continued a troubling trend in the City of Brotherly Love as Philadelphia franchises have now dropped three pro championships in the last 100 days.

Those title opportunities range across baseball, soccer, and now football. The Phillies fell to the Astros last year in the World Series. After taking a 2-1 series lead, Houston stormed back to win the final three games of the set.

On the same day the Phillies fell in a deciding Game 6, the Philadelphia Union dropped the MLS Cup against Los Angeles FC. That crushing loss came in penalty kicks.

Now, the Eagles have suffered a similar fate, reaching the top of their respective sport only to come up just short. The internet was quick to react to the heartbreaking feat.

This fan even added a USFL loss by the Philadelphia Stars for good measure.

What makes things worse is that each Philadelphia team held an upper hand at one point or another, only to see hope slip away.

We mentioned that the Eagles jumped out to an early lead, building a double-digit advantage in the first half. Kansas City didn’t get its first lead until there were 12 minutes left in the game.

The Phillies got up 2-1 in the World Series before going silent on offense. Over the last three losses, the Phils scored a combined three runs.

And in the MLS final, the Philadelphia Union held a 3-2 lead in extra time before Los Angeles FC scored the latest goal in playoff history in the 128th minute of the game. The Union would then get shutout 3-0 in a shootout.

Just brutal for Philly supporters.

The 76ers have a chance to continue the trend in the NBA Playoffs.

I’m not sure the city can take much more pain.
