The Philadephia Eagles appear to have a problem on their hands, and it’s one that fans have been trying to ignore for years, and now it seems that they can no longer deny it.

That problem, it seems, is star quarterback Jalen Hurts. And it’s never been more evident than it was during Sunday’s 24-20 loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

Hurts was down several offensive weapons due to injuries, including No. 1 wide receiver DeVonta Smith and star running back Saquon Barkley, in addition to a pair of starting offensive linemen.

But even so, his stat line against a similarly banged-up Rams’ defense was jarring. Hurts finished the game 12-of-27 for 93 pass yards. He had a pair of touchdowns, but one of the two came on a badly underthrown ball that was bailed out by wide receiver Darius Cooper.

Hurts finished the game with 68 net passing yards, which accounts for lost yards on sacks, on 31 dropbacks. His -0.31 EPA per play was third-worst in the league on Sunday, ahead of only Malik Willis and Jacoby Brissett.

Philadelphia fans have spent years blaming multiple offensive coordinators for Hurts’ struggles. They’ve blamed head coach Nick Sirianni, who now seems to be bearing the brunt of the criticism. But largely, they’ve refused to acknowledge Hurts’ complicity.

Now, it’s becoming too loud to ignore.

The Jalen Hurts Problem Is Now Impossible To Ignore For Eagles Fans

After a rough season a year ago for offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo, the Eagles brought in Sean Mannion from the Green Bay Packers. The idea was to get Hurts under center more and use the threat of the run game and Saquon Barkley to make life easier on the quarterback.

That has not worked.

Why hasn’t it worked? In part, because the run game has struggled. Some of it comes down to the offensive line struggling as well. But as Kieran Hickey-Semple pointed out on the “Speakeasy” podcast with LeSean McCoy and Emmanuel Acho, at some point, we have to call a spade a spade.

Now, you could argue that Hickey-Semple, a podcaster who has never played in the NFL, may not be the best source. But even former Eagles quarterback and Super Bowl 52 MVP Nick Foles couldn’t ignore that Hurts is simply missing easy reads and bogging down the offense.

“If you wanna have a real conversation and not play the blame game. What if we can’t run another offense because of Jalen? Like, that’s a real possibility, and I feel like people just wanna blame Nick because they may not want to face that reality. The same way we did with Wentz,” one fan wrote on X.

“Again, blaming the coaches and line is stupid. Jalen has to get rid of the ball on time. Receivers are open. Throw the ball!” said another.

It’s clear you can win with Hurts. Thus, the Super Bowl ring and Super Bowl MVP. But it also appears you need a lot of help to do so. Now that he doesn’t have an elite supporting cast, things are looking a little rough for the Eagles’ signal caller.
