College sports forever changed once the NIL deals came to fruition. Athletes can now transfer freely and get paid at the college level.
Well, some head coaches believe it’s getting a bit out of hand. Especially after Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi comments about the transfer offers UNC quarterback Drake Maye has received.
According to Andrew Fillipponi, Narduzzi claims he’s “heard two schools offered UNC quarterback Drake Maye $5 million to transfer.” For whatever reason, the Pitt head coach won’t name the schools in question. Regardless, Pat Narduzzi calls the whole ordeal “sad.”
Pitt Head Coach Pat Narduzzi says on @937theFan that he’s heard 2 schools offered UNC QB Drake Maye $5 million to transfer. Wont’s say who. But he knows who. Wow. Says it’s gotten out of control and it’s only going to get worse. Quote: “It’s a sad, sad deal.”

Look, if Drake Maye wants to sign elsewhere to make more money while he’s still in college, by all means, do it. However, Maye never entered the transferred portal. If a school can offer $5 million to a player to transfer who isn’t in the portal, then what’s the point of the portal?
Everything just feels like a free for all at this point in college sports. We’re sure Pat Narduzzi and Pitt have offered money to lesser-known players to come play for the Panthers who weren’t in the transfer portal. It’s just a bizarre situation right now. Additionally, there is no word that Drake Maye is even seriously considering these anonymous offers or not.
We’ll see how it all plays out. With the NIL essentially still in the wild, wild west, maybe the NCAA will step in and make some changes.
