Providence College men’s basketball is on an absolute tear. The Friars are currently the No. 8 team in the country at 21-2 and their only losses come to a dangerous Virginia team and a sneaky Marquette squad.

At the forefront of the spectacular run is a formidable quartet of upperclassmen, including three transfers and two graduate students. Al Durham, Nate Watson and Jared Bynum lead the team in scoring with more than 10 points per game and Noah Horchler leads the team in rebounds.

Of course, head coach Ed Cooley also deserves proper recognition. The 52-year-old has been with Providence since 2011 and is currently on track for his best season with the Friars.

In addition to the players and the coaches, the fans — particularly the students — deserve a lot of credit as well. They have rallied behind their top-10 team and show up to show out at every home game.

The Dunkin’ Donuts Center seats 12,400, and although the entire stadium may not sell-out every seat, the students are packed in and rowdy. Providence College has a total enrollment of around 5,000 and they turn out in droves for their basketball team.

They have also begun one of the greatest new traditions in college hoops.

Rather than breaking out into Neil Diamond’s ‘Sweet Caroline,’ like most sporting events might, the Friars join their voices to sing Taylor Swift’s ‘You Belong With Me.’ Swift has a house in Rhode Island and the rousing rendition would make her proud.

The student section Swifties were so loud in their singing that their performance of the seven-time platinum hit that it was very, very audible on the Fox Sports broadcast.

Providence will host No. 10 Villanova on Tuesday night and, if the schools knows what is good, it will have Swift on the speakers early and often. What a scene.
