  • Kyrie Irving made a comment after deciding to opt in with the Nets
  • NBA fans are confused by his message, saying he’s different than everyone else
  • He’s being mocked for making a choice literally everyone in his shoes would make

It appears as though Kyrie Irving will be back in Brooklyn for the 2022-23 NBA season.

The star point guard opted into his $37 million player option with the Nets, signaling a return for his fourth year with the franchise. For now, it ends an offseason drama that’s been brewing for months.

While there was noise around a possible move to the Lakers, doing so would’ve forced Irving to take a sizeable pay cut. That $37 million deal with Brooklyn would’ve turned into $6 million quickly had he spurned the Nets in lieu of LA.

So, most weren’t surprised when he made the decision to take the money. But what Irving said after the announcement truly has folks confused.

NBA fans are perplexed by Kyrie Irving’s comment of why he opted in with Nets

Kyrie made a comment explaining why he decided to opt in with Brooklyn. It has nothing to do with money or team fit or his NBA future. It’s because he’s different than everyone else.

“Normal people keep the world going, but those who dare to be different lead us into tomorrow. I’ve made my decision to opt in. See you in the fall. A11even.”

The thing that’s most ironic is that nearly everyone in Irving’s shoes would’ve done the exact same thing, and probably without the dramatics.

Fans on social media were quick to run with the quote, with some creating hilarious memes surrounding the comment. Others just laughed at the irony.
