NFL referees are once again being ripped for an egregious roughing the passer call made against Nick Bosa in Thursday Night Football. This one was especially painful as it wiped away a pick six.

In the 49ers’ matchup with division rival Seattle, star defensive end Bosa put a hit on quarterback Geno Smith just as he released the ball. The shot forced an errant throw, resulting in an interception.

Deommodore Lenoir took the turnover back 37 yards for a score, but some laundry on the field would take the points off the scoreboard.

On the play, the officials said that Bosa landed with his full body weight on the signal caller, warranting the roughing the passer call. But there doesn’t seem to be much he could’ve done to avoid the “penalty.”

After being hit with the initial force, Geno Smith fell back into his own player, altering his path to the ground. That slight adjustment helped cause Bosa to land on the quarterback, though even then, there didn’t seem like enough to throw the flag.

It’s just the latest questionable roughing the passer call we’ve seen in the NFL this season, with Nick Bosa being on the receiving end in this case.

Football fans were quick to comment on the blatantly bad call, posting reactions on social media. Take a look.

One fan said, “Shame on Bosa for not laying the QB down in a goose father bed.” Another wrote, “Nick Bosa was flagged for tackling the quarterback,” after seeing the roughing the passer call.

Bosa responded to the flag by gingerly sacking Smith the next time he got the chance. These calls continue to affect the outcomes of NFL games. Luckily, this one didn’t come back to bite the Niners as they’d win, 21-13.
