NFL fans received the worst possible holiday gift as they’ll be forced to watch Baker Mayfield take on Russell Wilson in a Rams-Broncos Christmas Day matchup.
Los Angeles picked up Mayfield off waivers on Tuesday after the passer was dropped by the Panthers. The team is in dire straits as they’ve seen injuries pile up at the quarterback position. LA has already seen Matt Stafford, John Wolford, and Bryce Perkins take snaps under center.
With Stafford hitting IR, Mayfield has a chance to come in a start as early as this week. It could also give him an opportunity to lead the team through multiple games, which has set viewers up for disappointment come Christmas.
The Rams will play the Broncos on Christmas Day, giving NFL fans a potentially brutal showdown between Baker Mayfield and Russell Wilson. It’s safe to say no one will be jumping out their seats to tune in on the holiday.
The meeting could outdo a previously uninspiring Rams contest that saw John Wolford face off against Cardinals backup Colt McCoy. I mean, you might actually want to spend time with your family rather than sneak away for this football action.
The Rams have been awful this year and currently ride a six-game losing streak. Adding Mayfield to the mix likely won’t make much difference on offense. At 3-9 this season, their Super Bowl title defense has all but ended.
Denver has been equally pitiful despite coming into the year with high hopes. The offense has sputtered, failing to score 20 points in 10 of 12 games. They’ve been held to 11 points or less in six of those contests. Russell Wilson has been the face of that disappointment as he continues to struggle in his first season with the Broncos.
The quarterback matchup is… less than appealing.

Baker Mayfield: 187.6 YPG, 6 TD, 6 INT
The two passers have combined to go just 4-13 under center, but someone will have to win this Rams-Broncos bout. One thing is for sure, it likely won’t be the fans.
