Rick Pitino forgot to look at the New York Giants’ schedule before extending a special invite to quarterback Tommy DeVito. The 71-year-old college basketball coach tried to capitalize on Tommy Cutlets mania by offering the rookie sensation a courtside seat at St. John’s next game.

There is only one problem.

DeVito and the Giants will be on a flight from New Jersey to Louisiana before their game against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. Attending a basketball game in Queens on Saturday night will not be possible.

The next opportunity to get DeVito to Carnesecca Arena might be better anyway. Xavier will roll into the Big Apple next Wednesday night. That is a much bigger game than Fordham.

Having the most Italian quarterback in the NFL, who has captivated an entire nation with a life straight out of the Sopranos, joining forces with a member of the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame is an unstoppable duo. Rick Pitino and Tommy DeVito is a match made in heaven.

If the Red Storm really wanted to get in on the sensation sweeping the nation, they would have Tommy’s cousin Danny (no, not that Danny DeVito) cook up some more sandwiches outside of the arena. St. John’s could made it Italian night. Pitino could get all of East Williamsburg, Dyker Heights, Bensonhurst, Bay Ridge, and Staten Island in the gym to cheer on his program.

DeVito and his family are the biggest story in football right now. The undrafted quarterback out of Syracuse and Illinois was never supposed to see the field this season. He can’t stop winning!

No athlete in recent history has captivated the entire New York fanbase like DeVito. Getting him over to watch Pitino, who is perhaps the most villainous character in college basketball, would be legendary. They are a perfect pair!
