The legend of Tommy DeVito continued to grow on Monday night, as the 25-year-old undrafted rookie led the New York Giants to a last-second win over the Green Bay Packers, notching his third-straight victory as a starter.

What makes the Tommy DeVito story so hilarious is that he’s a local North Jersey kid who seems to be a living caricature of all the stereotypes that people in the area are known for. The Sopranos, Sunday sauce, tracksuits, sub shops, etc.

Now, you might find yourself thinking, “Well, Eric, isn’t that a little offensive?” To which I’d say — I am one of these North Jersey Italians. My last name is literally Italiano. DeVito went to high school about 15 miles away from mine.

And even I have to admit that DeVito’s aggressive Italianess is something to behold. What makes it even funnier, at least for people around here, is that they know that DeVito is not the exception, but the rule — there are families and people like this all over the state, particularly in the north. Like the Freefolk in Game of Thrones, except paisans in the suburbs of New York City.

The DeVito fever seemed to hit a fever pitch on Monday night (unless he leads them to an unlikely playoff berth) as the former Syracuse and Illinois signal caller introduced the world to his agent Sean Stellato, who truly must be seen to be believed.

The family also held a massive pregame tailgate (via Fox New York), which featured over 300 chicken cutlet sandwiches personally handcrafted by Tommy’s cousin Danny DeVito. Yes, DANNY DeVITO. Not the Danny DeVito, but still.

With their 24-22 win over the Green Bay Packers on Monday, the Giants have snuck into the periphery of the NFC Wild Card race, as they are just one game out of the 7th and final seed.
