The US Open is supposed to be the toughest test in all of golf. Scores of US Open’s have resulted in winning scores over par, with courses that are long and fast with jungles for rough. But, no one got that message to Rickie Fowler and Xander Schauffele.

Coming into Thursday’s first round of the 2023 US Open at Los Angeles Country Club, the lowest round in the history of the championship was a 63, which had been accomplished by Jack Nicklaus, Johnny Miller, Tom Weiskopf, Justin Thomas, Tommy Fleetwood and Vijay Singh. And, conditions were expected to be tough this week at LACC, but that didn’t stop Rickie Fowler and Xander Schauffele from both going out and shooting eight-under 62’s at the par-70 course. Take a look at some highlights from each player.

Now, for some Xander highlights.

And, the two of them are good friends, both having grown up in southern California. Rickie Fowler and Xander Schauffele were both pretty jovial after the event.

The tournament runs through Friday.
